T.J. McCarthy and Associates is one of the largest real estate appraisal and consulting firms in the Chicago area. Our firm specializes in appraisals of 1 to 4 family residential properties, residential vacant land and review appraisals of 1 to 4 family residential properties. We have been providing appraisal services to most of the major lenders in the Chicago Metropolitan Area for over 25 years. T.J. McCarthy & Associates serves the following counties:

PRIMARY COUNTIES –  Cook, Will, DuPage, Lake, McHenry, Kane, Kendall, Grundy, Kankakee, Lake (Indiana) and Porter (Indiana)
SECONDARY COUNTIES – LaSalle, DeKalb, Iroquois and LaPorte (Indiana).

T.J. began his appraisal career in 1977 working for a large savings and loan in southwest Chicago. He established his own appraisal firm in 1983 and currently staffs 42 appraisers servicing a 15 county area. T.J. holds the SRA designation with the Appraisal Institute. He also holds a Certified General Real Estate Appraiser License with the State of Illinois and a Certified Residential License with the State of Indiana.

In August 1991, TJ became the first appraiser in the State of Illinois to pass the real estate appraiser exam and receive his license. He is an appraisal analyst for Channel 7 Eyewitness News and Channel 5 NBC News.  TJis also an approved appraisal instructor with the Appraisal Institute. He has written numerous articles for trade magazines and local newspapers on appraisal related topics. He has also co-authored the current Illinois Real Estate Appraiser Licensing Act.

T.J. was the 2004 President of the Appraisal Institute –Chicago Chapter and the 2004 President of the Illinois Coalition of Appraisal Professionals (ICAP).

He serves on the Illinois Real Estate Appraisal Licensing Board (IREALB), with the Department of Professional Regulations (DPR), which he chaired from 2007-2008.  He also serves on the Appraisal Foundations State Regulatory Advisory Board (SRAG), in Washington D.C.
